SUMMARY:The Gift of Story: a retreat for Advent and the Winter Solstice with Lindsay McLaughlin\, Julie Gabrielli\, Lisa Bardack\, and Katy Gaughan
DESCRIPTION:THIS RETREAT IS FULL. \nWe live in a dark and unsettled time.  This has given rise to a deep yearning within us to return to the ground of our being\, to re-weave our connection to the living Earth and all that is Good and Holy\, to find light in the darkness. \nThe Winter Solstice\, the day the “sun stands still”\, poised between light and dark\, has been celebrated as a moment of transformation for thousands of years among many peoples on every continent.  It invites us to pause in awe at the wonder of the heavens and the cycle of the seasons and consider the role of mystery and the rhythms of grace in our lives\, and so be restored in heart and soul. \nThis retreat is for all those who long for such solace and soulful transformation.  It is for those who want to hear wisdom in ancient tales and practice the art of restorying by listening for those stories that are germinating deep within our own souls\, stories that carry the seeds of our own healing and path forward through darkness into light. \nOn this retreat we reweave our connection to Earth and Cycles and Mystery by wandering during the sacred time of Solstice in the enchanted world of nature\, seeking to be met by bare-branched oak\, by hawk and raven\, by still and frozen stream. \nWe immerse ourselves in stories\, poetry and art\, and attend to the dreams that sing to us in the long nights.  We gather for ceremony\, for sacred dance\, drumming\, and song\, and for circles of shared wisdom.  We make generous space for silence\, journaling\, meditation\, and rest. \nThis retreat is for men and women. It is for people of all faiths and traditions and those who might call themselves spiritual but not religious. \nThe retreat takes place at Rolling Ridge\, more than a thousand acres of sacred forest on a small mountain between the Appalachian Trail and the Shenandoah River\, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge.  Our simple\, cozy\, and lovely Retreat House has seven bedrooms.  Meals are lovingly prepared by the Rolling Ridge community from locally sourced\, fresh ingredients.  Access to Rolling Ridge is by car or truck only. \nThe retreat begins at 5 pm Friday (includes dinner) and concludes with lunch on Sunday (departure by 3 pm).  Early arrival on Friday (beginning at 2 pm) is encouraged. \nCost (includes six meals\, lodging\, and program):\n$299 – single room\n$249 – shared room (come with a friend or partner)

SUMMARY:RACIAL AWARENESS AND MINDFULNESS 2018: A MINI-FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS\, AWARENESS\, HEALING\, AND JUSTICE
DESCRIPTION:This festival is not for those who wish to gather information without an urgent need to change! Americans continue to debate the shape and extent of racism in society. Yet shootings of unarmed African-Americans\, disproportional incarceration and poverty rates\, and a continuing list of disparities remind us as the Church and as citizens that the U.S. must continue to press ahead with addressing issues of racism and white supremacy. Politicians are promoting bigoted ideas and organizations. Many whites have watched the crisis unfold and have said\, “I didn’t know that was still happening…. What can I do?” Because so many people remain to be reached\, we are organizing a third Racial Awareness Festival in 2018 (#RAF2018). Our long-term goal is to make this an annual event with festivals addressing racial awareness and healing nationwide.  Month by month\, interest grows in the project. \nRacial Awareness and Mindfulness 2018:  A Mini-Festival of the Arts\, Awareness\, Healing\, and Justice intends to help people of goodwill reflect on the remaining reality of racism in our society through rhythm\, blues\, keynote\, and practical exposure through experiential workshops with both African-American and white caucuses\, as well as multiracial spaces\, opening awareness of privilege and supremacy\, and healing years of unresolved trauma.  This year’s keynote speaker is National Book Award Winner\, Ibram X. Kendi\, who will address “How To Be An Anti-Racist” in both keynote and workshop format following.  Potter’s House Books will be here as well! At the end of this one-day event\, we hope churches\, communities\, and individuals will be more self-reflective regarding the impact of racism on their lives\, and we hope they will be inspired to join anti-racism organizations\, have their churches partner with others across the faith and racial divide\, and or continue to engage with participants they meet at the festival throughout the year. If people sign-up to continue the conversation\, we will meet monthly thereafter on the third Saturday. \nThe festival will offer perspectives from the arts\, media\, and workshop facilitators to help people engage with the reality of racism in a new way. We will offer music\, media\, Interplay modalities\, an engagement group for whites only\, and Emotional Emancipation Circles for African Americans.  At the end of the day\, we will gather again to engage in a facilitated Intergenerational dialogue to discuss our ideas and experiences of race given our engagement in the festival context and to continue raising awareness of the struggle for both healing and justice.  All these methods offer opportunities for people to explore the reality of racism from a new perspective. \nLUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED.

SUMMARY:Connecting to Earth’s Rhythm: A Pilgrimage of Drumming\, Silence and Soul in the Pacific Northwest
DESCRIPTION:The Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas in Washington state offer a rare and unique experience of rugged terrain\, plentiful life\, and ecosystems so rich anddiverse that they abundantly sustain body\, mind and spirit. Anchored by the Olympic Mountains\, this liminal space is bordered by the Pacific Ocean\, Puget Sound and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. \nOn this pilgrimage\, we will explore and honor land\, sea and sky as we tune in to the spectacular beauty and stillness all around us. It will be our honor to learn Earth wisdom from First Nation peoples who have lived for generations in this area. We’ll find opportunities for connection through drumming\, silence\, and shared experience. \nAs we slow our pace\, we become more aware of the natural Earth rhythms and sacredness of this world; as we still our voice\, we come home to the Wisdom within and around us. We invite you to dedicate a week and join with us to walk in beauty with Earth’s heartbeat\, to feed our souls\, and to reaffirm our place in Creation.

SUMMARY:Sound & Silence Weekend Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Embodying prayer through the sacred rhythms of drumming\, chant\, nature and silence \n“After silence\, that which comes closest to expressing the inexpressible is music.” – Aldous Huxley \n“Do we know\, each one of us\, that we are bearers of the sacred beat of life? Do we know that we can honor that beat in one another and in all things? And do we know that it is this combination – of knowing that we are bearers of Presence and choosing to honor Presence in one another – that holds the key to transformation in our lives and world?” –John Philip Newell \nMusic & Movement … Drumming & Chant … Listening & Silence …. embodiments of prayer allowing us to experience the sacred beat of life connecting us to ourselves\, to one another\, and to God. This weekend retreat invites us to honor that sacred beat and go deeper into intention and prayer as we learn how to play – and pray – with drums\, chant\, the labyrinth and silence. \nLed by Katy Gaughan and Tracy Seffers\, the rhythm of our time together will include an introduction to drumming\, group drumming as prayer\, chant\, walking the labyrinth with drums\, free time in nature\, a fire circle and rhythm church. Woven throughout the weekend will be times of silence. \nKaty Gaughan is a drummer and drum circle facilitator whose mission is to bring people together to experience the healing power of drumming and rhythm.  Katy facilitates group drumming experiences for wellness\, community building\, worship and celebration. \nTracy Seffers lives near Rolling Ridge. She learned drumming from Katy\, and was inspired to become a drum facilitator herself\, using it as means to build community and to teach mindfulness\, playful creativity\, cooperation\, and stress management. She leads monthly drum circles and has served on the Friends of Silence board. She has drummed for several retreats at Rolling Ridge and Still Point.

SUMMARY:The Power of Ceremony with Cacao and Drumming
DESCRIPTION:Join Katy Gaughan\, Jim Wert and Christel Libiot to experience The Power of Ceremony with Cacao and Drumming to Activate Change.\nWe will drink Cacao and Drum with intention\, we will drink Cacao and Drum with playfulness\, we will drink Cacao and Drum to go deeper\, we will Drink Cacao and Drum to Activate the change we want to see in our lives and in the world!! \nAbout Cacao:\nDrinking Ceremonial grade Cacao is the Heart Opening Experience. An Indigenous Mayan myth tells us that whenever the balance between humans and nature becomes threatened\, cacao comes out from the rainforest to open people’s hearts and return the planet to a state of harmony. Now is the time. Cacao is a facilitator and will invite you rather than push you on a spiritual journey. Only you choose. It is a deep spiritual experience and we invite you to join us on this blissful journey. Ceremonial cacao is the Food for the Shift. \nAbout Drumming:\nEvery human being has a heart beating like a drum. The pulse of life comes from each heart beat. When our rhythms are in sync\, we feel better about ourselves. When our rhythms align to positive energy\, we are uplifted. When our rhythms are given expression\, our creativity awakens. By setting the intention\, creating the space\, issuing the invitation\, and welcoming everyone to PLAY DRUMS\, an energy is unleashed. Suddenly individuals feel part of something bigger and are empowered to express themselves – tapping in to their own rhythm and tuning in to the harmony of the group. \nTicket: $30.00 via Eventbrite \nAbout Katy:\nI am a professional drum circle facilitator\, percussionist\, retreat leader and event organizer whose mission is to bring people together to experience the healing power of drumming and rhythm. SUMMARY:Restorying the Heroine's Journey - A Retreat for Women
DESCRIPTION:RISING ROOTED \n“If we surrendered to earth’s intelligence we could rise up rooted\, like trees.” ~ Rainer Maria Rilke \n“We have our own guiding stories\, and they are deeply rooted in the heart of our own native landscapes. We draw them out of the wells and the waters; beachcombing\, we lift them out of the sand. We dive for them to the bottom of deep lakes\, we disinter them from the bogs\, we follow their tracks through the shadowy glades of the enchanted forest. Those stories not only ground us: they show us what we might once have been\, we women\, and what we might become again if we choose.” ~ Sharon Blackie \nThrough time in the wild mountain forest of Rolling Ridge as well as gathered times of ceremony\, and soulful conversation\, we will immerse ourselves in the realm of story and deep imagination\, cultivating women’s wisdom to recreate personal and cultural consciousness in this time of turmoil and transformation. This annual retreat includes openings for wandering in solitude\, sharing dreams and stories\, the rhythm of drums\, and sacred circle dance. Come with us to rediscover your journey of belonging to the living Earth and all her inhabitants. \nThe retreat is at Rolling Ridge\, 1400 acres of protected wilderness between the Appalachian Trail and the Shenandoah River. Lodging in our comfortable Retreat House and at the Still Point mountain cabin. The retreat begins at 5 pm on Friday and ends after lunch on Sunday. $325 includes lodging\, meals\, and program. Register with a friend and share a room for $275; or camp\, $245 (bring your own tent). Scholarships available.
